What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an effective and scientific system of healing which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment not the disease.
The practice of homeopathy has been established for 200 years, and remedies act by stimulating the body’s own healing power. This stimulus will assist your own system to clear itself of any expressions of imbalance. The aim is to get you to a level of health so that eventually you will need infrequent treatment.
It is recommended that you maintain your relationship with your GP who can arrange any tests or X-rays you might need, and by working in this way the two systems of health care can provide complementary services.
The Society of Homeopaths maintains an international register of homeopaths (RSHom). Homeopaths on the register practise with a strict Code of Ethics and Practice, hold professional insurance, and have passed stringent academic and clinical assessments before being admitted to the Register.
What happens on your first visit?
In order to find the right remedy for you as an individual, your homeopath will need to know all about you. A detailed understanding of who you are, along with any complaints and details of how you experience them, is needed to asses your case correctly. So anything you can tell your homeopath that is typical of who you are will help this process. They will also find out about your general energy level, your past medical history and the way you live. The initial consultation may last an hour or more, and anything you say will be treated in the strictest confidence.
What will the treatment be like?
Your homeopath will give you a homeopathic remedy, usually in the form of a tablet, occasionally as a powder, which should be allowed to dissolve in your mouth; or you may be given a liquid remedy with instructions. Nothing else should be put in the mouth for 20 minutes before or after taking the tablet, not even toothpaste. You will usually be advised to avoid coffee, peppermint and preparations containing menthol, eucalyptus and camphor, as these can interfere with the action of the remedy.
And after treatment
After taking your remedy you may notice some changes. Some patients experience a period of exceptional well-being and optimism. Sometimes your symptoms can appear to get worse for a short time before improving, which is generally an indication that the remedy is taking effect. Sometimes a cold, rash or some form of discharge may appear as a ‘spring cleaning’ effect which means your system is going through a clearing stage. If any response to your treatment causes concern, please phone Stillpoint and your homeopath will discuss it with you.

Homeopathy Practitioner at Stillpoint Bath
Originally from Belgium, I moved to the UK to study a Master’s in osteopathy and a diploma in homeopathy. Having a passion for natural medicine, I decided to deepen my knowledge of the plant, animal and mineral kingdoms by studying homeopathy. I graduated from the Centre of Homeopathic Education in London and recently moved to the beautiful area of Bath.
Growing up as the daughter of a nurse, medicine has been a core part of my life. When I got ill as a child, my mother was reluctant to go down the conventional route and luckily found out about homoeopathy. This medicine has helped me endless times to restore both my physical and mental health. I would take ‘Nux Vomica’ for tummy aches and nausea, ‘Arnica’ for the occasional injury, ‘Silica’ for when I had exam stress and ‘Tuberculinum’ for the hay fever season. In challenging times at school, I would use Bush Flower Remedies to move through it all with ease & grace. I remember joining my mother on nursing home visits and observed the endless lists of medication that her patients had been prescribed. I did not understand why they were given so many pills and yet seemed very ill and unhappy still. My child’s mind wondered why not everyone was using homeopathy, especially since it had worked so well for me and without any side-effects!
I later realised that not everything is a black and white, and many people do need and benefit from conventional medication, including myself. However, I realised that I had found a hidden gem in a world that challenges you to be healthy.
Homeopathy to me is power. It is Knowing when nature can help you move through illness and pain. It is knowing that our body is a powerhouse of wisdom and health, always striving towards balance. Homoeopathy taught me that our body possesses infinite wisdom, we merely have to learn to listen to it.
In our sessions, we will explore together how you can listen more carefully to the messages from your body. We can observe at which moments your body was not heard and thus created symptoms. These symptoms can occur in any body part, any organ, create dis-ease and cause hurt both physically and emotionally. The world is One Field of Consciousness, and the greatest discovery of homoeopathy is that all human behaviour is reflected in plants, animals and minerals. My work exists to truly listen to you, to your body, soul & spirit. I will then match your individual story with a homoeopathic remedy that reflects your state. The Homoeopathic medicine acts as a catalyst for that story, that pain, that disease to transform into health. Into who you were truly meant to be, full of creative potential.
The lesson is the medicine.
If you feel called to work with me to explore the potential of homeopathy, I am looking forward to getting in touch with you at the Stillpoint practice.
